The Alberto Saibene Prize for Art History Books
"The Alberto Saibene Prize for Art History Books", awarded by the Roberto Longhi Foundation, was established by Alberto Saibene's seven children in memory of their father.
The Milanese manufacturer Alberto Saibene was born in 1899 and died in 1971. He was a sell-taught art historian and true connoisseur of Italian painting from the 14th to the 17th century.
He thus was able to put together a collection of paintings admired by eminent critics like Roberto Longhi, Federico Zeri, Mina Gregori and Giovanni Testori who were all his close friends.
Alberto Saibene conceived of his collection as a means for widening the horizons of young scholars. He thus made a substantial contribution to the study of humanities and of our cultural and historical roots.
